Album Review: Todo Muere

Be still, my goth heart. This compilation from Sacred Bones is the best of experimental, psych, drone and noise music. It’s a drop of the dark stuff.

Boris, the Japanese noise legends do a slinky take on Jim Jarmusch’s Squrl from Only Lovers Left Alive, and like the titular vampires Adam and Eve, it’s faithful and sexy.

Thou, Mizmor and Emma Ruth Ruddle cover Zola Jesus ‘ Night with a howl into the void.

Only one track feels a little bloodless – Anika and her take on Psychic TV’s Godstar.

But in the main, it’s a thing of dark beauty. See Marissa Nadler and her peerless cover of David Lynch’s Cold Wind Blowin’. It’s a cold nor gem.

This is music to quicken the pulse and remind you that there’s always more adventurous music lurking in dark corners.
