The Future’s Here Today: Stratford Rise

And they look like such sweet boys! Belfast noise punks Stratford Rise played a blistering session for Deb and Tom’s New Music Fix last night on BBC 6. The band have a plethora of influences, such as Deerhoof, Captain Beefheart and XTC, all chopped up and stuck in a blender, and have garnered a great live reputation with their high octane, paint peeling sets.

They’re fast, loose and funny, and make me wonder if there’s something in the water in Northern Ireland just now, given the astonishing amount of excellent new bands currently creating a scene there. Catch them on tour before they become huge…or look old enough to get served in pubs. Bless them.
