Sam Reid stars as a derivative glam rocker… Except he’s the immortal bloodsucker Lestat in this Anne Rice- inspired follow-up to ‘Interview With the Vampire’. How to modernise him for Gen Z? By making him an insufferable, preening edgelord, part Ewan McGregor in ‘Velvet Goldmine’, part undead Michael Hutchence, and inserting endless jump-cuts and heaps of sex, blood and hedonism. It’s as though nothing can be trusted without ADHD montage, voiceover explaining everything all the time, and nods to Tik Tok and eco-friendly urinals.

It gives me a headache and makes me want to drink Horlicks in a polyester nightie. Essentially, Reid and the rest of the cast are okay, but it’s the very thing it’s trying to pastiche, and ‘Only Lovers Left Alive’ did this kinda thing much better. I’m either too old, or I’m not sure who it’s aimed at. I suspect it might be the latter. It’s just all…meh.
