I was wrong about this album at the time- I only gave it four stars when I reviewed it in The Wee Review. It’s a five star album. It’s a masterpiece, start to finish.George and Jack, I was wrong.
From the Reichian percussion of opening track ‘Infinity Vibraphones’ to the languid eroticism of the title track, to ‘Where The Trees Are On Fire’ ‘Beyond Black Suns’, and ‘Six’, the sense of environmental collapse, desire and societal malaise is threaded throughout: it’s aching for something more, a longing for meaning and beauty in an increasingly polarised and fragmented world.
This was before COVID. It’s as if they knew that we were on the brink of something. The Barnett brothers are geniuses.”This is the fire that you can’t put out”. Damn right.
