Lost In Music: Lucrecia Dalt- A Danger To Ourselves

Colombian artist Lucrecia Dalt’s seventh album was born in struggle. She’d suffered seizures and a near-death experience, which is possibly why the album is so intense, contemplative and beautiful. Co-produced with David Sylvian, her real-life partner, it covers many influences as you may expect from working with such an esoteric musician. It’s stunning.

Juana Molina and Camille Mandoki also collaborated here. There are shades of Rosalia, Bjork and Laurie Anderson here, which is all to the good. The rich, distorted synths, wild strings and polyrhythms are sweetened by soft, beautiful vocals.

I always appreciate pop music which is experimental but palatable, and this is no exception. Released last year, it introduced her to a whole new audience, myself included. It’s simply impossible not to get hypnotised by this music.
