Lost In Music: Alt Blk Era

Nottingham sisters Nyrobi and Cheya Becket-Messam are kicking a hole through musical genres and expectations. The dynamic pair make music that straddles EDM, indie and metal, and their sparky debut album ‘Rave Immortal ‘,which was released last year, earned much critical and fan acclaim.

Their outspoken attitude on issues like Black culture and disability, cheeky humour, kawaii -influenced style and vibrant sound garnered them a MOBO award for Best Alternative Music Act last year, but with a forthcoming EP, ‘Our World’ due for release and a massive tour in the offing, they will surely have a brilliant 2026. And deservedly so.

  1. Totally new to me. Great track.

Question is, should they be worried that a 62-year-old bloke with a penchant for indie-schmindie likes it??? (don’t worry….it’s a rhetorical effort….but I would feel a tad awkward standing at the back of the hall watching them play and crowd going ape-shit!)
