Album Review: CLAMM- Serious Acts

Melbourne trio CLAMM have been bubbling up over the last few years, creating an enjoyable and disarming racket. The band, who consist of Jack Summers, Stella Rennex and Miles Harding, mine the best parts of punk, post -punk and noise music, but they’ve got a lot to say about contemporary society too, reflected in their spat out, oppositional lyrics.

Their third album will make you feel like a dog’s chew toy at the end. It’s brutal yet still accessible. From the anthemic, fuzzy defiance of ‘Bag I’m In’ to ‘More Serious Acts’ which, with its synthy gothic agitation, rails against the rise of oligarchs, this band feel like the new generation who were raised on punk’s political resistance and liberation.

Indeed,’Blinded’ is a reverb-soaked kiss-off to cheap culture, media misinformation and apathy, while the jaggedly hypnotic ‘Pigs Don’t Read’ has Dead Kennedys in its DNA. It’s a sobering slice of hyper-caffeinated punk for these hugely divided times.

Out via Meat Machine on 30th May.Touring across UK and Europe in May and June.
