TV Review: Falling Part 2

I’m prepared to contradict my initial impression. It’s been a couple of weeks since my last confession. ‘Falling’ is getting better since its first two episodes. Now, we’re getting into the ethics of the series, the meat, a heavy juxtaposition of forbidden love and devout faith, it’s a slow -burning, rather good series, actually. Jason Watkins as the self-righteous Bishop Peter is particularly good. You’d quite like to garotte the little shit with his own rosaries… Well, I certainly would. Or maybe just kick him up the arse, a la Bishop Brennan in ‘Father Ted’.

It’s still pretty flawed- people talk in *hushed tones* ALL the time. Anna was welcomed back into the convent a little too readily. The issues, too, are dealt with a little heavy -handedly, like David confronting an abusive man with his own flaws, talking of how he fell into alcoholism..and… cue flashback. But the performances across the board are very good.

It may not have the believability of the far superior ‘Tip Toe’ but as it unfurls and character arcs develop,, I must admit to having judged it slightly harshly at the outset. Two Hail Mary’s, and a blast of Black Sabbath. More tea, vicar?
