Queer Theory Is 10!

Glasgow’s finest queer club night, Queer Theory, turns the big 1-0 this year. To celebrate a decade of beautiful, wild and sexy shenanigans they’ve got the mighty cabaret legend, The Divine David himself,

David Hoyle, as guest of honour. Here’s the full line-up happening at Drygate on Saturday, April 25th. It’s their biggest night yet.

Queer Theory, Glasgow’s iconic queer cabaret is set to welcome a star-studded line-up of performers for its 10th birthday bash in Glasgow. The performance artist David Hoyle (of the Channel 4 tv show the Divine David Presents) will appear alongside RuPaul’s Drag Race UK finalist Black Peppa and a host of other performers at Drygate Glasgow on April 25.

Since Queer Theory was founded by event producer, DJ & musician Dean Cargill in 2016, it has grown into a veritable institution in the Scottish arts & nightlife scene that has worked with 15 partner venues and festivals, supporting well over 250 LGBT+ Scottish-based artists from the fields of drag, live music, spoken word, comedy, performance art and more, with a focus on subversive and experimental work.

Queer Theory has provided a vital supportive environment for upcoming artists to test ideas, some of which were later developed into successful full-length shows such as Daddy Drag by Leyla Josephine, Gayboys by Craig Manson and Baby Face by Katy Dye. During lockdown, Queer Theory moved into online events, and received Creative Scotland funding to produce Transcendence, a digital cabaret festival, featuring artists such as Jo Clifford and Sean Lionadh. Since 2023, Queer Theory has branched out of Glasgow and taken part in festivals around Scotland every summer including Kelburn Garden Party, Caithness Pride, Edinburgh Pride and the Edinburgh Fringe.

Queer Theory is marking its 10th Birthday with a cabaret + club at Drygate, its first event at the 500-capacity venue. The lineup features exciting local up-and-coming artists alongside nationally-renowned performers including:

  • David Hoyle, the all-singing all-raging bonafide cabaret legend who reached a national audience with his 1998 Channel 4 sketch show The Divine David Presents
  • Black Peppa, the self-styled ‘Caribbean empress’ of Birmingham drag and the star of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Season 4
  • Karen Dunbar, the national treasure of Scottish comedy, closing the party with a 2-hour DJ set of house & disco
  • Mystika Glamoor, our cabaret drag hostess and a prolific staple of the Edinburgh queer scene
