Catherine O’ Hara Has Gone

The versatile actor with the lovely voice has passed away at 71 and it’s such a big loss. To a whole generation she’ll forever be Kevin’s mom Kate McCallister in ‘Home Alone’, to another, Moira Rose in ‘Schitt’s Creek’, to older comedy fans she started out on Canadian TV as a sketch comedian, but for me she’ll forever be the wonderful Christopher Guest ensemble player in ‘Waiting For Guffman’, ‘Best In Show’ and ‘A Mighty Wind’. What a trio of ridiculous joy and pathos. And let’s not forget her vocal work as Sally in Tim Burton’s ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas ‘, not to mention the hilariously pompous artist Delia Deetz in ‘Beetlejuice’.

I love when she sang ballads, though. Rest in peace, Catherine, you were completely, utterly humble and brilliant. There’s a kiss at the end of the rainbow.

  1. She was so wonderful. Glad you’re a fan of the Christopher Guest films, speaking of wonderful. Did you happen to see her in that last role with the Studio show on AppleTV? That was so good. Glad she got to be in that, she was perfect for it.
