The Future’s Here Today: Siblings

They take their influence from classic singer-songwriters like Leonard Cohen and are also inspired by folk and jazz, but I can also hear the tender side of PJ Harvey and a little shimmery shoegazing in this new EP, In Heaven, from Siblings.

Based in South London, their majestic sound is underpinned by introspective lyrics and melancholy, and lead singer Theo DW possesses a dreamy baritone. The other members- Rob Fenner on guitar and keys; bassist Michael Webb, and drummer Ben Andrewes- are no slouches either.

Evangeline evokes autumnal feelings, a subtle kind of wistfulness that only comes at this time of year. They’re a nice antidote to the trendy, postpunk inspired bands that are ubiquitous just now. I predict big things from them.
