Lucifer Over Lanarkshire: I Don’t Get Antony Szmierek

Hipster haircut- check. Banal rhymes- check Disaffected swagger-check. Now it’s time to release Antony Szmierek into the wild. Fly, Antony, fly, carried by the winds of fashion and massive hyperbole.

Seriously, why do people love him so much? People are losing their shit over this posher Streets – Avenues maybe would have been a better moniker. His lyrics are contrived, and he just tries so hard to be “with the kids”. He was actually a teacher, prior to his music making, and he seems like the type to encourage kids to do silent discos on their lunch breaks or something. Fine, if it stops anyone else hearing him.

I’m baffled by his huge trajectory into stardom: he seems like a nice enough sort, but the tunes leave me cold, like a Mighty Boosh rap which got rejected in their lunch break. Meh.

  1. i don’t know much but i do know popular and good aren’t the same. why is he popular: because it’s what he’s after. and someone told someone else in the crowd this is what everyone else is listening to. and he got a lucky break.
