Lost In Music: Screaming Lord Sutch- Jack The Ripper

Here’s a ghoulish garage rock classic to make you shake yr bones. Ivy and Lux were fans, so was Nick Cave and Jack White, and The Horrors have included it in their club nights,so you know it’s a winner.

David Edward Sutch aka Screaming Lord Sutch, was doing the shock rock thing long before Alice Cooper or errr… Marilyn Manson. He was a dandy in top hat and cape, often emerging from a coffin and using props such as skulls, daggers and knives. His early recordings were produced by Joe Meek, so that’s why the sound is scratchy and wild. He was quite something, was Sutch.

And no, he wasn’t really a royal. But he did start the Monster Raving Loony Party in the United kingdom, so double props for that. This song is still an absolute belter. Happy *thin veil between the living and the dead* day, spooks, creeps and ghouls, everywhere.
