I’ve just finished binge- watching the excellent fourth series of Traitors US, and wow, what a series finale! A worthy winner, if contentious to the loser ( I don’t think “we made a pinky promise” is legally binding, you know!) and full of high- camp, frenetic fun as ever. No spoilers here…
Alan Cumming looked fabulous, as did his dog La La , and many of the contestants. It got shady, quickly. It got emotional, too. The American contestants are not ones for holding back, and why should they, with so much money at stake. It’s also nice to see diversity represented: there are so many different ethnic backgrounds, sexual preferences, ages and body types here.
What really interested me though, was the playlist. Astraea’s specially composed ‘His Body Lies Where Flowers Grow’ was used before every roundtable, where a player gets banished. Like the flowers in said song, it’s a grower, even if it is a bit faux-goth.
Then there are classical bangers like Handel’s baroque piece ‘Sarabande’ which is truly majestic, and the beautiful, thrilling piece ‘Lacrimosa’ from Mozart’s peerless ‘Requiem’. The theme tune, composed by Sam Watts, is great, too- completely OTT. All perfectly selected for a gripping, intense and often ridiculous series. It never disappoints. Roll on series 5.
