In December 1976, Queen were scheduled to appear on an early evening TV show, Tonight With Bill Grundy. But they couldn’t make it, so instead Sex Pistols were invited, along with their pals, The Bromley Contingent. This included a young Siouxsie Sioux. Grundy, already a little drunk and not au fait with the zero fucks given by the punks, goaded them into swearing, after he’d attempted to chat up Sioux. Britain was appalled, clutching its collective pearls and tutting. The tabloids went one step further, making the band front page headline news, and thus cementing their history for creating outrage forever.

Many years later, satirist Kevin Eldon parodied said incident on his sketch show, It’s Kevin. Only here, everyone was Amish. Hilarious, because it’ was done completely stoney faced, and verbatim. Never mind the bonnets, it’s comic genius.
