While his singing half treads a more commercial path these days, Will Gregory from Goldfrapp has a project that’s experimental, doffing a hat to pioneers like Stockhausen and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. It’s wonderfully out of step with current trends in modern music, like the recent jazz revival and hyperpop.
Will Gregory Moog Ensemble is the collective, with up to fourteen musicians playing live. They have several love dates, and have paid a live tribute to Wendy Carlos ‘ seminal Switched On Bach.
The forthcoming debut album, Heat Ray was inspired by Archimedes, and the current line-up features Gregory with Adrian Utley; Simon Haram, Ruth Wall, Dan Moore, Graham Fitkin, Vyv Hope-Scott, Eddie Parker, Georgie Ward and Ross Hughes.
Out via Mute Records on June 14th.
I learned about Goldfrapp just a couple of years ago and really dig their sound, expecting cool and unusual things from the new project
